OLD CLOWN WANTED

“Old Clown Wanted” is a search for something forgotten, something priceless. Something without which we cannot exist. Neither in the past, nor in the future. We cannot exist without art; we cannot exist without the actor... This is the central idea drawn from the work of Matei Vișniec. From this text, staged so many times around the world... It is absolutely significant that this play continues to be staged globally, everywhere - because in every country, regardless of differences, we cannot exist without art, we cannot exist without the actor.

Symbolically, the author gives us clowns who have been left without work, pushed aside, rejected by society, people whom society currently has no need for and has therefore forgotten and abandoned. These same clowns are fighting for their existence, for their sense of self, for their importance in the world... for the need for their skills, their creativity, their art. And yes, starting from Vișniec’s symbolism, many actors around the world recognize themselves in these characters, and precisely because of this, they feel the need to work on this text. Why, more specifically?... To prove their importance, and more than that - their very existence!

So that the importance of an artist is not forgotten, so that the importance of an actor is not forgotten - and what they contribute today. In our contemporary society, many people forget the importance of art and what it gives back to the world... how important it is for these “doctors” of our time to heal indirectly, passively, through their creations... How important it is for a society to move forward - how important art itself is and how irreplaceable its role is.

And so, symbolically, this performance, through the clowns, has the task of reaching every audience - both younger and older - so that they may understand the role of the artist, the role of creation, and the creative process through play, entertainment, smiles, and positive energy... Through the creation of a “circus,” or rather - through the creation of art. How important it is to “play,” to have fun - while at the same time recognizing that very act as work.

How important it is not to forget who we are and what we want to achieve in the world, even when the world has turned its back on us and, seemingly and temporarily, no longer wants us. What matters is to continue playing, to continue entertaining, to continue creating - to continue doing what we love - and in this way, to contribute, and in this way - to be useful - for the good of society.
