SHADOWS OF TIME
Conceptual Themes
1. Memory as a Shadow
-
Memories, like shadows, are intangible yet persistent, shaping decisions, relationships, and identities.
-
The metaphor of a shadow reflects how memories can feel both present and distant, always anchored to a source - a person, place, or event.
2. Legacy
-
Shadows symbolize the lasting impact people leave behind, both positive and negative.
-
The narrative may explore grappling with a legacy - whether from a parent, mentor, or historical figure.
3. Haunting the Present
-
The past can "haunt" characters through unresolved trauma, guilt, or nostalgia.
-
Shadows of Time symbolizes the struggle to move forward while remaining tethered to personal or collective histories.
Narrative Frameworks
1. Personal Journey
-
A protagonist confronts the enduring effects of their past decisions, navigating resurfacing memories that, like shadows, influence their quest for closure or redemption.
2. Generational Tale
-
The story explores how one generation’s legacy casts shadows on the next, incorporating elements like family secrets, inherited trauma, or cultural traditions.
3. Mystery or Supernatural
-
Shadows might take on a literal or metaphorical form, manifesting as mysterious figures or forces tied to forgotten events in the past.

Shadows of Time, a concept tied to memory and legacy, offers a profound foundation for storytelling and artistic exploration.
Workshops
The workshops will span two days, focusing on essential elements for actors, such as: Character creation, writing biographies, creative thinking, physical theatre, butoh theatre, movement exploration and much more. These sessions will culminate in the collaborative process of crafting a performance.
Rehearsals
Following the workshops, three days will be dedicated to rehearsals, during which the performance will take shape. Collaborating with a theater director to create new scenarios and working with a professional choreographer on developing fresh choreography.
Performance
The performance will take place on the final day of our journey, showcasing everything we’ve created in an open - air setting in front of the audience.
